Kineret is an artist, writer and educator. Her work grows out of her deep love of the wilderness, of ancient wisdom traditions, and of the interweaving of human stories.
One-Stroke Brushstroke and Braided Rivers are Kineret’s most recent series in ink and acrylic.
One-Stroke Brushstroke (reception room exhibit) emerges from a yearlong residency Kineret held at Upaya Zen Center in 2015-2016, where she began experimenting with Japanese calligraphy ink work. This series meditates on the “Circle of the Way” Zen practice that reminds us how every action, even the simplest stroke, contains the fullness of everything.
Braided Rivers (hallway exhibit) has been four years in the making, following six months Kineret spent aerial photographing multi-braided rivers in New Zealand’s South Island. For Kineret, braided rivers embody the flow of the most important stories of our world. Circulated and re-circulating, the stories of our lives flow sometimes in prominent, fast-flowing channels, sometimes thinning into rivulets, sometimes even submerging completely underground. Although not forever– just look down the river bed…you will see! They are preparing to emerge again. And often in the most unexpected places.
